There’s a lot to be said for a good kettle, especially when you’re an avid tea drinker like me or you need a soothing, warm drink. This kettle by Bella (1.2 electric ceramic kettle) has been a winner for me. Why? First of all, it looks nice. It’s also simple – I wake up in the morning, walk into the kitchen and flick the switch. There are no small buttons to push or settings to decide on. I like my water boiled, period. If I want it slightly cooler I simply let it stand in a mug before adding a tea (green tea for instance, which can turn bitter if the water is too hot). The switch has a soft, warm blue button that lights up when it’s on (nice for night-time). My cat likes to watch it as well, because for him it signals that food is coming (it’s not unlike Pavlov’s law).
I also like it because it’s quiet and meditative – no loud beeping if you’re boiling a cup of tea in the middle of the night. And when it boils the overall sound is much quieter than many other standard kettles (so I can still hear my CBC radio in the morning). This may have something to do with its solid ceramic structure.
Which brings me to another point. Ceramic is apparently among the best of non-toxic cookware options. The only downside is that the kettle is a bit more fragile – I have to be careful when placing the kettle down on its base as the ceramic can crack (this did happen with my last kettle). It is also slightly heavier than a standard kettle.
Even still, I am in love with this kettle and don’t think I could part with it. Cup of tea anyone?
